I saw a tweet on my timeline this week that read something like, “you cannot out-earn bad financial habits”.
The advent of spring has forced us to climb out of our hibernation pods and it feels like there’s little time to lose the extra padding we’ve put on over the cold months. All kinds of short, quick-fix detoxes are being shared across the socials in response to the pressure to get skinny in time for the festive season.
I’m not going to act holier than thou and pretend that I wasn’t tempted to try one out, because I was. However, at this stage of my life, I’m well aware of how useless quick-fixes are. Eventually, the weight comes back, or my skin breaks out. My body is slowly getting sick of my bad eating habits, my sugar addiction and my reluctance to go to bed in good time. I’m not allowed to cheat the system anymore.
This spring, let’s aim to build new and better habits. Go back to basics. Drink your water, cook your own food to control what you’re putting into your body, get more sleep, get some fresh air and walk or run. There aren’t any quick-fixes to a toxic lifestyle. You cannot out-detox that.
